Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Vice President, Advancement and External Relations, this position is responsible for the conceptualization, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programming (events, activities, and initiatives) across all campuses to mark the University’s 100th anniversary. The incumbent will lead the research and development of a program of events that reflects the University’s strategic plan and vision, positioning it as a university of choice for local, national, and international post-secondary students. In performing the duties of the position, the incumbent will consult with, engage, and coordinate the efforts of a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure success of various initiatives and events. This will involve preparing proposals and related correspondence, developing and implementing event plans, assessing and managing related risks, overseeing and ensuring planning and coordination of related logistics including identification of appropriate resources, and negotiating and preparing contracts associated with planned activities. The incumbent will act as the primary liaison for anniversary committees, ensuring that their work is supported and fits within the overall program of events and initiatives. The position will work closely with all units within Advancement and External Relations. The incumbent will prepare and deliver presentations on planning and implementation, develop and monitor budgets for all components of the anniversary celebrations, prepare final reports, and perform other related duties as required. Travel throughout Newfoundland and Labrador is anticipated in relation to meetings and various events.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Experience (5-8 years) in event planning, project management, research and planning, or related field; a university degree, supplemented by specialized training or certification in project management; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience planning and implementing large scale, multi-faceted programming activities would be an asset. The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional planning and organizational skills, sound judgment, negotiation skills, and the ability to think creatively within the context of identified strategic priorities. Strong interpersonal skills and communication abilities (verbal and written) are essential. Considerable knowledge of budget preparation and monitoring, project management practices, social media, and business application/financial administration software is required. The successful candidate must hold a valid driver’s license.
